I had the pleasure of meeting Penny several times.  She also called Bugg her "cyber g'daughter" and has sent her several gifts.

I met Penny several times as well.  First was in Lancaster in the 90s for the quilt show there.  Then the following year (I think) she came to QF and stayed with Annie.  They both came to my house for the RPLOTN party.  I have fond memories.  Feel really sad for the grandsons as they had such close contact with her almost daily, living in the same house.  They were the light of her life I think.

I think I will always remember Penny taking over bedroom when she came to Houston for Quilt Festival the year she stayed with us.I drove to Hobby to pick her up, and having never met her, I wasn't sure who I was looking for. When I went to the desk to check her flight (it was delayed), I couldn't remember her last name!! Of course, the lady behind the desk didn't want to give me ANY information since I wasn't family and didn't have a last name! It was CRAZY! I wasn't sure she had connected to her flight, was she even ON the plane, etc.! I had Chris with me, and since he was about 8 years old, he was totally bored!! haha Finally, however, the flight from California arrived, and when Penny came out of the plane, I knew her right away! Chris was holding a sign that said "Penny from Madrid??" on it, and I could hear her laughing across the waiting area.

I also remember that she was a heavy smoker at the time, so Kenny set up a smoking area on our outside patio area. Penny was quite large and wore these "mumus" that she made. She gave me one of hers with the comment that I could make SEVERAL things from the yards and yards of fabric. Anyway, I remember Penny sitting on my porch swing smoking and talking about how much she loved all of the quilting group, getting to know everyone, etc. I just wanted to share this with all of you.

Thanks for sharing those Penny moments. I am deeply saddened to hear of all of our loss. There are no words to say how I'll miss her sweet "voice". I met Penny very early on when I still lived in Australia and I did a birthday swap with her and Gloria A! I still have the house blocks...never put together but will look for them. I finally met her face to face at festival and she was a treat in person as well. Quilters are special people and I treasure all of my quilting friends.

I had the pleasure of her staying with me, once in my old house, and in my new old house right after we moved in. Annie and I went to visit her several years ago in Spaiin.  It was a wonderful vacation.  She was very caring and gracious whenever I was with her and also through e-mails.  I miss her so much.

I don't have any really good Penny stories except to say that I'm really going to miss her humor, her caring qualities and participation in everything we were doing -- even if she couldn't be here in person. She was truly a special lady.

I am having a real hard time absorbing this information! I know Penny had been ill for a long time, all the way back to the first time I met her, but I never knew she was as ill as this. I know we will all miss her terribly. Penny always had kind words for everyone, and she was always willing to do over and beyond whatever it took to get the job done My heart goes out to Penny's family, and I know we (the Scattered Piecers) will always remember her All my sympathies, Cindy (who was privileged to have Penny stay at my house for her first meeting with all of us) p.s. My whole family is saddened by this news. We remember that visit very well...

Scattered Piecers' Sad News

This afternoon I recieved an email from Polly, one of my fellow Scattered Piecer's. She had received an email that our sweet Penny, from Spain, had passed away. Penny was the so loving, and selfless and always full of information and great websites to visit. She spent many hours collecting our pictures and stories and anything she could to put together a really special newsletter each month.

Bonnie, just talked to her in the chat room yesterday so this was quite a shock even though we knew she was in poor health. I'm sure it will take some time for it to sink in and there will always be a huge hole now in our family circle.

Penny, thank you for making me feel welcome in this group and for all your warm and encouraging, enlightening emails. God Bless You!

Another Weekend Without My Bobbin Case....

Drats....I'm starting another weekend without my bobbin case.  I'm too lazy to set up my old machine so this will be a weekend of no sewing!  What's a girl to do?  Well, I had an idea!

 

This will surely help my new year's resolution of completing some of my UFO's because I have about 4 applique projects that are on that list.  All but one of these are Block-of-the-month kits that I just never got around to doing each month they came in.  So my idea was to get caught up on my Applique!  I am going to do all of the January blocks in those Applique projects while I'm waiting on my bobbin case to come in.  Then next month hopefully I will have enough motivation to catch up on the February blocks....and so on and so on....or should I say.....

I Can't Find My Bobbin Case

First of all....Happy New Year! I know I haven't posted in a while but you know how the holidays can get! In fact it got so hectic in my sewing room that I lost my bobbin case! Seriously! I was up early one morning before Christmas, quietly working in my sewing room. Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse kind of atmosphere. I was changing my black bobbin to white. I guess I got distracted, or got up and fixed another cup of coffee. All I know is that when I got back on task the bobbin case to my new Brother was gone! Vanished! I check trash cans, thread bags, under over and in every single inch of the sewing room. It has just disappeared.

So needless to say I didn't sew any during the holidays. Thankfully I was finished with any last minute gifts so the loss wasn't critical. The bobbin case has to be ordered but I hope to pick it up this week and get back on track this weekend!

I have several New Year's Resolutions that deal with quilting that I will share. Maybe making them public will make them happen!!!

1. Make a list of UFO's and start whittling it down.
2. Do more of my own quilting. It is what I bought the new machine for, after all!
3. Vow to not start last minute Christmas Holiday projects. All gifts must be done by Thanksgiving! Wow, this one will be tough because Quilt Festival is barely over and I always find something cool to give. But if I stop the pressure of finishing at that date it will make the season a whole lot easier. In fact, one of my other resolutions was to devote Nov. & Dec. to scrapbooking. These two months hold my boy's birthdays and I think it will seem special to them if I work on their books around their birthdays. See....I have a plan!
4. And last but not least, I hope to journal and record finished projects more frequently in this blog.
